1. Ilfracombe

Bus Route: 21/21A (Barnstaple to Ilfracombe)
Journey Time: Approx. 45 minutes

Hop on the 21/21A from Barnstaple bus station and wind your way to the vibrant seaside town of Ilfracombe. Stroll the picturesque harbour, visit the famous Verity statue by Damien Hirst, or treat yourself to traditional fish and chips on the quay. Don’t forget to explore the Tunnels Beaches—historic bathing pools carved through the cliffs!

2. Croyde & Woolacombe

Bus Route: 21C (Barnstaple to Croyde/Woolacombe)
Journey Time: Approx. 50 minutes – 1 hour

Pack a beach towel and catch the 21C to two of North Devon’s most iconic beaches. Woolacombe is a three-mile stretch of award-winning golden sand, while Croyde offers a more rugged vibe and top-notch surf. Perfect for a sun-soaked adventure or a bracing walk along the South West Coast Path.

3. Bideford & Appledore

Bus Route: 21/21A
Journey Time: 30–45 minutes

Head south along the River Torridge to Bideford, a historic market town with quirky shops, waterside cafes, and beautiful parks. Continue on to Appledore, a quaint fishing village full of narrow lanes, colourful cottages, and an artistic spirit. The views across the estuary are postcard-perfect.

4. Lynton & Lynmouth

Bus Route: 309/310 (via Lynton)
Journey Time: Approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

For a more adventurous day, take the scenic 309/310 route through Exmoor to Lynton and Lynmouth. Ride the unique cliff railway between the two villages, marvel at the dramatic Valley of the Rocks, and enjoy some of the most breathtaking views in all of North Devon.

5. South Molton

Journey Time: Approx. 50 minutes

If you fancy a taste of country life, South Molton is a lovely little town with a twice-weekly pannier market (Thursdays and Saturdays), artisan food, and independent shops. It's a peaceful escape, ideal for those who like to wander and discover local treasures.

Jump on the 21/21A and head to the only town in the UK with an exclamation mark in its name, Westward Ho! Known for its long pebble ridge and wide sandy beach, it's perfect for a coastal stroll or a relaxed day by the sea. The promenade offers stunning views across Bideford Bay, and there’s plenty of space for a beach picnic or a paddle. The village also has quirky shops and ice cream parlours to complete the seaside experience.
