Quirky adventures in Devon

Are you so indecisive that you find yourself always doing the same thing and going to the same places? 2021 is the year to try new things and discover more of Devon. Let us inspire you with a handful of quirky places and activities so you can make the most of your time off.

Time to say goodbye to the same old, and welcome new adventures by adding some quirkiness into your life.

Have a Curry on Barricane Beach:

When food is involved, you can be guaranteed it’s going to be an amazing experience. Having a curry on Barricane beach is the stuff of legends in Devon, whether or not you’ve been, you know of it and people always speak of it with such charm. Barricane is located between Woolacombe and Mortehoe, it's secluded from the outside world and is one of those gems that could easily be missed. Tucked between some rocks, the beach itself provides a picturesque backdrop to relax and create memories.

Barricane Beach Cafe is where the magic happens, between 5pm -7pm Thursday to Sunday they offer a selection of mouth-watering curries that will give you a surreal Sri Lanka curry experience in the heart of North Devon. Choose between a meat or veg curry, both served with an additional two veg curries, poppadums’ and sambal. If you want to make an evening of it, why not bring blankets and a bottle or two of wine to watch the sunset and spend some quality time with friends and loved ones.

Strawberry picking at Halberton Farm:

Nothing quite says warmer weather than vibrant fruit oozing with flavour and juices. Spend an Afternoon at Halberton Farm on the outskirts of Tiverton and enjoy picking your very own strawberries. Entering the farm is completely free just pop into the farm food shop and get yourself a basket, after this, you can roam along the fields deciding which strawberries look good enough to make their way home with you, once done you simply pay for the weight of the fruit you picked. If you do enjoy the odd candid picture for Insta, this provides a stunning backdrop and could quite possibly be one of the most summery days out. If you do want to prolong your day, why not enjoy some fresh delights in the Tea Room, or take a stroll on the Tiverton canal just up from the farm.

Take a Bike Ride on the Tarka Trail:

The Tarka Trail offers 180 miles of discovery, and although it would be impossible to tackle it all in one go, it does allow for extra days out and more adventures. The Tarka Trail is made up of a figure-eight route so experience unspoiled countryside, dramatic sea cliffs and beautiful beaches, ride from or to Barnstaple, Oakhampton, Woody Bay Station, Instow, Fremington Quay, Valley of Rocks plus many more locations. Don’t have your own bike? That’s no trouble with there being countless places close by renting bikes for all your adventures.

Sunflower picking at Darts Farm:

Darts Farm is our furthest pick of all being located near Exeter but is certainly worth the drive. Darts Farm offers an array of activities during the year, but when the sun makes a warm welcome to our skies there’s one popular way to celebrate at Darts Farm. Sunflower picking is a crowd-pleaser offering a funfilled way to pick your own bright yellow bunch of happiness. To make it that little bit more appealing the money you pay for the flowers goes to the chosen charity of Darts Farm, so not only are you brightening up your day but you’ll be brightening the days of others with a good deed. So why not follow the trodden paths in the yellow haze or make your own paths and discover untouched beauty in the depth of the sunflower fields?
