12 days of Christmas in North Devon
In the lead up to Christmas, there is plenty of festive things to do in North Devon. To help you plan your visit, we’ve produced a calendar of events to make this Christmas the most magical one yet!
13th December - visit Clovelly
It’s always nice to visit Clovelly whatever the time of year, but Christmas is a particularly magical time. The Christmas lights are increasingly popular and are truly stunning to see.
If you don’t already know, Clovelly is a picturesque fishing village, steeped in maritime atmosphere, which clings to a 400-foot cliff in North Devon. There are breathtaking views down-a-long the traffic-free high street. The street is unique and the working harbour, with its 14th-century quay, is another scene to be captured as a treasured memory.
14th December - The Big Sheep Christmas Market
Forget the hustle and bustle of high street shopping and enjoy the social buzz of a traditional country food market in their indoor barn. As the South West’s biggest indoor food market, there will be many delights on offer including free-range turkeys, handmade gifts, cheeses, cakes and Christmas trees. Other dates include 7th and 21st December.
15th December - Magic of Christmas Food & Craft Fair Rosemoor
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to buy wonderful Christmas food, gifts and decorations from independent local artisans and craft stalls. There will be a selection of fantastic Christmas goods to suit all tastes.
Make the most of your day as you amble around the beautiful gardens and enjoy a delicious meal in their award-winning Garden Kitchen Restaurant.
16th December - Go Christmas shopping
Whether you love it or hate it, buying Christmas presents for your loved ones is often unavoidable. Here in Barnstaple, you’ll find a selection of shops along the high street and in Green Lanes Shopping Centre so you are guaranteed to find something for everyone.
The shopping will no doubt leave you desperate for caffeine, so why not stop by the Coffee House for a delicious hot beverage and a tempting selection of homemade cakes and pastries.
You could also visit Affinity Devon Shopping Outlet for a fantastic range of shopping with over 30 stores from famous brands, offering a fantastic variety of offers on normal retail prices.
17th December - Enjoy a peaceful beach walk
The seaside isn’t just for the summer: frosty paths, fresh sea air and calming waves make for a delightful winter walk. Here in Devon, you can choose from many of our beautiful beaches such as Westward Ho! or Saunton Sands and take a moment to relax a recharge before a busy Christmas day during a peaceful beach walk this winter.
18th December - Festive Afternoon tea
Ho-ho-how about a delicious afternoon tea with loved ones in the build-up to Christmas to bring on some festive cheer?
Festive Afternoon Teas at The Imperial Hotel are served from 25th November to 21st December. Enjoy a selection of festive-themed finger sandwiches, homemade scones, pastries and cakes; served in the ambience of their luxurious and relaxing Terrace Lounge.
19th December - Rosemoor 'Glow' Garden Illuminations
Rosemoor Glow is back for its third year following a brand-new route that has now been extended to the lake for the first time. See the gardens from a unique perspective during this festive period as the gardens come alive with colour and lights. The illuminations are on every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, except boxing day, from the 14th November.
20th December - Polar Express
The Polar Express will be making a return to Seaton Tramway this season. Families can enjoy a magical tram ride to Santa's home at the North Pole in one of the festive tramcars. Plus, just like the film, children can enjoy a mug of hot chocolate, a delicious treat, speak to Santa and admire the amazing lights while walking around the North Pole. Throughout the journey, you will be able to sing along to Christmas Carols - the perfect opportunity for the grown-ups to take a trip down memory lane.
21st December - Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Santa Specials
Visit Woody Bay where you can meet Santa and get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy a truly magical experience. Dates also include 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th December.
22nd December - Christmas Crafts at Arlington Court
Get Creative this Christmas when you visit Arlington Court on either the 14th, 15th, 21st or 22nd of December. Be inspired by the traditional Victorian Christmas and have a go at making something special to take home.
23rd December - Santa’s Grotto and Elf Emporium at The Milky Way
You can meet Father Christmas when you visit The Milky Way for a magical fun-filled family day. Get in the festive spirit as you decorate gingerbread, make reindeer food and help Buzzlewick the elf sort and load the children's fabulous letters ready for him to take back to the North Pole. Other dates include 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd December.
24th December - Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs (Barnstaple Pantomime)
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a trip to see a pantomime…. With lavish scenery, spectacular costumes, and dazzling special effects, the annual Queens Theatre family pantomime is the perfect Christmas treat. With a great cast, live music, amazing dance routines, and a hilarious script, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has something for everyone.
